If you know my husband and I, you know that we are adventurers at heart.  We go on trips any chance we get and have moved all over with each other.  One of the promises we made when we first started dating was to always make time for adventures, even when life gets in the way.  Ryan had promised me before we were even married that he would take me to Europe before I turned 30 and well, the clock was ticking.  He made good on his promise, and we spent a week in Paris last May with 5 months to spare!  Follow along as I recap the trip, from how it came to be, to where we went along the way.  I'm also mixing in my iPhone photos because some days ... I'm so excited about sharing this Cedar Rapids same sex wedding at Cedar Ridge Winery from earlier this year.  Let me just take a moment to say, I hate including those keywords because a wedding is a wedding, no matter who is exchanging vows.  But Google likes keywords and I want to be found by other same sex couples in the area, so please excuse the clarifying phrase. And now, on to Ben and Danny's love story!  They met on a blind date at Mickey's Irish Pub in downtown Iowa City and the rest is history.  When I asked what they were most excited about in married life, Ben said they were practically married already and Danny said he couldn' ... Engagement session in the countryside of Galena, IL.
Engagement session in the countryside of Galena, IL.
When Cassidy contacted me about her idea of going to Galena for a wine tasting engagement session, I responded with "SIGN. ME. UP." Galena has a special place in my heart. I can't tell you how many times my husband and I have discussed the logistics of moving there. The quaint downtown, the bluffs, the history...we love it all. So, give me an opportunity to head over and be a Galena wedding photographer for a day and I'm all over it. Plus, I love wine. I've known Cassidy for almost nine years now. She was one of my trainers when I worked at Bennigan's back in my college years and we became fast friends. Life has thankfully slowed d ... Read the Post

Bridal portrait of bride and close up of pink bridal bouquet outside St. Raphael Orthodox Church in Iowa City
When I was contacted about this Orthodox wedding in Iowa City by the groom, I was so excited. I love getting to learn new wedding traditions. It's a perk of my job! Since this was my first time attending an Orthodox ceremony, I prepared by emailing with Fr. Ignatius at St. Raphael to make sure I understood the traditions and was respectful of the ceremony. I always especially look forward to weddings where my primary contact has been with the groom. 99% of the time I almost exclusively talk and plan with the bride, so I get super pumped about the groom taking charge in the photography area. As I got to know Matthew and Katherine, I lea ... Read the Post

Samantha and Curtis' Quad Cities family farm wedding can be described in one word. FUN. These two were such a pleasure to get to know, from their lighthearted snowy engagement session to all of our planning check ins leading up to the wedding. I don't know how I somehow get the most relaxed couples, but I love it so much. The two of them were just so excited to get married, they didn't let themselves get bogged down with all of the planning stress. I love how much their celebration on Sam's dad's family farm really revolved around family and having fun. I think you will see from the pictures that this group was definitely having a great ...
